We understand creative visual thinking as a Heart, Mind, Body, Materials Process. Squiggla helps us relax into the creative process using our senses through the interaction of intention, intuition, improvisation and intellect. It inspires the making by the artist and insights by the viewer.
As Australian artist Madonna Staunton once wrote: "The viewer has to advance toward the work to meet, to participate." It is this hands on participation that we encourage.
Squiggla can then become the product of thinking about visual perception, the visual as inclusive of seeing, touch, hearing, smelling, making, thinking - an experience lived. Through mark making, we become more alert to looking.

Squiggla is a mark making programme that encourages a focus on creative visual thinking through the senses. The process involves complex interaction between the predominant sensing system- the eyes- and that part of the body essentially characteristic of being human - the hand. Other senses reinforce this awareness, including the tactile, spatial, kinetic and visceral. In this way, creative processes originate in both mind and body. The sense based processes and the analytical reasoning processes operate together, to inspire the making by the artist and insights by the viewer. Think of the sense of balance, sense of time, sense of space, sense of day dreaming, sense of touch, sense of harmony, sense of gestures and sense of joy.
